Brightwell previously served as an assistant coach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) for three seasons (2015-17). Under head coach Ryan Young, Brightwell helped the Tritons to a 22-8 record in 2017; the program’s most wins in a single season in 10 years. While at UMSL, Brightwell saw the team improve from 16 wins in 2015 to 18 in 2016; and 22 in 2017. Her duties as assistant coach included coordination of recruiting, scouting, and training. Brightwell was also responsible for the development of the program’s culture and the implementation of mental training at UMSL.
A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Brightwell is a graduate of Cedar Rapids Kennedy HS. She began her collegiate volleyball career at Drake University before playing her final three seasons at UMSL, where she served as team captain in 2013 and 2014.
An outside hitter, Brightwell appeared in 91 matches at UMSL. She was a three-time Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) All-Academic Team selection and served as the Tritons’ SAAC President.
Brightwell holds two degrees from UMSL. She completed her undergraduate studies in business administration (with an emphasis in management) in 2014 and then received her master of business administration in digital and social media marketing in 2016.
Brightwell’s volleyball resume also includes time spent as head coach for the 17U High Performance STL squad. She helped lead the club to the 2018 Gateway League championship and a regional title. Brightwell was also the head junior varsity coach at Christian Brothers College in the spring of 2018; her first experience coaching men’s volleyball.
