Megan is a native California woman, a photography art director & fashion designer producing her own resort wear line of kaftans/tunics called Hola! La Pina.
In terms of playing volleyball, Megan played all of her life and started at the Bay Club in 5th grade in NorCal learning fundamentals and fell in love with the sport. As she grew, she played for city beach in the bay, and was a team captain and starter for St. Francis High school in Mountain View, CA. It’s a legacy in Nor-cal with banners from state championships spanning many, many years for the Lancers! Megan was a 1st team All- American at the Junior Olympics her sophomore year and won 3 state championships throughout her 4 year career. Out of high school, like most teammates on her team, Megan was recruited throughout the country & committed to Villanova University on a full scholarship. She had an illustrious career and made it to the NCAA tourney for the first time ever in school history! Just recently, last year she was inducted into both the Villanova & St. Francis Hall of Fame which was truly an amazing honor!
Megan O’Brien was named to nine all-tournament teams during her career at Villanova, and was a two-time ALL-BIG EAST honoree (second team as a sophomore and senior). O’Brien ranks in the top 10 of the Villanova record book in 11 different categories. She ranks second in career digs per set (4.01), while ranking third in career kills per set (3.79). She is fifth in career kills (1,390), career digs (1,472), and single-season digs (574, 1995). O’Brien is sixth in single-season digs per set (4.78, 1995), and seventh in both career points (1597.5) and career attack percentage (.251). Finally, she is eighth in career attack attempts (3,453) and ninth in career service aces (125). During O’Brien’s career, Villanova was 74-46 and qualified for the BIG EAST tournament three straight years from 1995-97. The 1997 team made the BIG EAST final and advanced to the NCAA tournament.
Megan coached club years ago (15/16’s) and then her life in Corporate America took off! Last year she returned as the Head Coach for the PV Juniors at Surfside. She is excited to work with this age group again this year.
