Ian is a South Bay local who played for Mira Costa High School and went on to play for California State University, Long Beach. Ian holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Marketing. Ian has coached Surfside 18 Legends, 17 Legends and 14 Legends in his tenure at Surfside.
Prior to Surfside, Ian coached for USA Beach Volleyball Youth Coach at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center and 949 Athletics where he led his team to a Junior Olympics Gold Medal. Ian coached at Mira Costa High School Girls for their Varsity and Junior Varsity teams, and coaches 1-on-1 private lessons and group sessions both indoor and on the beach. As a coach Ian works hard to create volleyball training routines and practices designed to best prepare players for competition, directed team meetings and video breakdowns outside of practices, as well as evaluate and document player performance to provide guidance on how to improve individual execution.
Apart from his coaching experience, Ian has competed on the beach and indoor for years. Ian’s playing career includes, Long Beach State Opposite for Alan Knipe & Tyler Hildebrand, Adult Nationals Pro Division 1st Team All-Tournament, Daily Breeze Boys Volleyball Player of the Year and Mira Costa Team Captain, CIF Southern Section DIV I Champion and 1st Team All-CIF, Back-to-back Bay League Titles & Bay League MVP, Best of the West Tournament MVP, Junior Olympics Gold Medalist, and USA Youth National Team NORCECA Gold Medalist. Ian has been playing professional beach volleyball for a few years now and has competed in the AVP domestic beach tour, the FIVB world tour, and two Pan American Games.
